Criminal Defense
Before you speak to police or plead guilty to any chargeā¦
Just because you have been arrested, it does not mean the state can prove you guilty. If you are criminally charged, the government has the burden of proving your guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. You should never plead guilty to any criminal charge without consulting qualified criminal defense counsel. Remember:
When contacted by the police, you should never consent to the search of your person, vehicle, belongings, or your home.
If the police attempt to discuss your involvement in a potential crime, do not make any statements spontaneously, voluntarily or under questioning by the police.
Special rules apply to DUI stops, where you have fewer rights to refuse testing for alcohol and/or controlled substances, (although you are not required to discuss your alcohol or controlled substance ingestion under any circumstance).
If you have been arrested or suspect you are the target of a criminal investigation, call the offices of Freeman & Riggs sooner than later. We have extensive experience handling all criminal charges at all phases of a criminal case, and will provide you with an intelligent, aggressive criminal defense.
